About
Creativity and spirituality are vital to our lives. They are as basic as food is for the body and thought is for the mind. They bring kindness, clarity and insight into our daily lives. Neglecting these human dimensions increases intolerance, fanaticism and religious fundamentalism — attitudes opposite to well-being and happiness.
Facilitator
Madhu B. Wangu is an author, artist and the facilitator of Meditation for Mindful Writers. She has a doctorate in the phenomenology of Religion from the University of Pittsburgh (1988) and a post-doctoral Fellowship from Harvard University (1989-1991). For fifteen years she taught Hindu and Buddhist art history at the University of Pittsburgh, Rhode Island College and Wheaton College, Mass. She joined Pennwriters Organization in 2005 and served as their Author Advocacy Coordinator from 2008-2010. Currently she is Area 3 Representative and an active Pennwriters Board member.
Madhu Wangu has written two books about Hindu and Buddhist goddesses. Images of Indian Goddesses: Myths, Meanings and Models, (Abhinav Publications, New Delhi, 2003) discusses the meaning of goddess symbols. A Goddess is Born, her doctoral dissertation, (Spark Publishers, 2002) details the social, political, and cultural meanings of a local goddess of Kashmir. She has also written two extensively illustrated books for young adults, Hinduism (Facts on File, Inc., New York, 1991) and Buddhism (Facts on File, Inc., New York, 1993). She has held five one-person shows of oil paintings and has exhibited with several art groups in India as well as USA.
Dr. Wangu has an abiding interest in the teachings of Asian religions as they relate to the theories of Carl Jung and his school. As a scholar of the phenomenology, she finds the vast inner world of human psyche & self as absorbing as the Asian teachings about the ultimate reality and human soul. More than two decades of writing, painting and meditating has lead her to write about the psychic world, its expression in visual and literary art and the aesthetic enjoyment that results from it.
Madhu Wangu’s CD, Meditation for Mindful Writers, was released this month. Currently, she is working on A Guidebook for Mindful Writers that will accompany the CD. She is also writing A Collection of Short Essays and A Collection of Short Stories. She leads a weekly “Mindful Writers Group,” & paints watercolors.
She lives in Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA with her husband Manoj, an Engineering Executive. They have two daughters—an avionics engineer and a pediatrician, and are blessed with two grandchildren.
